Baby Stephen
It all started with Kidzfest as a personal mission for my husband Steve and me to honor our son Stephen Michael Hurly, who passed away from heart disease and complications of premature birth at the age of five weeks in 2003. Stephen was a beautiful baby and so full of life. In his short time here he taught us the meaning of hope and love.
Together with the Board of Help Women and Children Now (HWCN), and our friends, family and neighbors, we raise funds in an effort to cure pediatric heart disease and premature births. During our baby’s short life we were filled with hope for his future. Hope is what got us through the darkest days of our lives. We hope our donations to this important research can help save children's lives in the future, and prevent families from going through the pain we endure daily.
Our Stephen did not have the future we planned, but through our efforts he lives on and his hope and love continues – please join in this wonderful cause.
Our Mission
Our Mission with Help Women and Children Now, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is two-fold. Our primary mission is to support research of premature births and pediatric heart disease and to provide direct assistance to local families in medical crisis. Our secondary mission is to mentor high school aged young adults to understand the importance of getting involved in their community while fighting for a worthy cause.
Our Background
HWCN was created in 2006 to honor newborn Stephen Michael Hurly who passed away after only five weeks due to complications of heart disease and premature birth. Our first fundraising effort was Kidzfest, a family festival raising thousands of dollars and providing education and visibility to these important issues.
We soon broadened our fundraising efforts to help local families in medical crisis through funding of home makeovers to suit their new needs, as well as by providing monetary resources.
Today we continue to fundraise for research, with a series of events such as Kidzfest, the Tavistock Golf Club tournament and family outing, and $10 from 10,000©.
We are staffed entirely by volunteers and all of our net proceeds go directly to research and community outreach. Please join us as we work to raise money and educate others to help put an end to premature births and pediatric heart disease.
